Contemporary Vienna and its society are changing even faster. While the immediate surrounding of the site is one of Vienna’s most central ongoing urban development areas, the project site is an enclave turning into a barrier in many ways. The streets and particular topography are a point break, the single-storey buildings have no significant architectural quality and the rest of the site in abundantly covered in vegetation with no function. At the moment, part of the functions and services are not able to bring quality to the public areas. The project strategy is based on its capacity to be transformed and to follow and in the same time to activate the continuous changes of its surroundings. The isolation and closure of the site is abandoned by the design of new connections, porosities, juxtapositions and overlapping functions. These new connections positively affect the relationship between the neighborhood and the city at the urban scale, and between the living and the production areas within the neighborhood, thanks to new flexible urban programms, shared spaces and new types of proximities. The city platform is based on concepts of adaptability and openness, allowing greenery and people to go through it, creating new places for exchange and meeting. Given its modularity it can develop into multiple definitions based on need, will be able to dialogue with the city in many ways activating the trasformation of the area through a process of pedestrian and mobility improvement, through a community regeneration and through an industrial restoration.
